Lifestyle Support for Healthier Living

Holy men have gone up on high mountains in every generation to speak with the Father of our spirits and the God of this earth.

All life as we know and observe it flows as a gift to man in order to grant us time for a single purpose, to become endowed with Eternal Life and the power by which worlds are created without number.

It is no wonder that one of the largest industries on earth today is the health and wellness industry. It is hard-coded into our DNA. We possess within us seeds that can grow up unto perfect health and the power to do with our gift of health extraordinary things.

The Everlasting Promise of Health

A few months ago I was visiting with a friend who has suffered various food insensitivities. We designed a raw-food diet that for a time helped her to alleviate great pain. But then more food sensitivities began to develop within her. We then customized an eliminative diet, which also served to alleviate much pain for a time, but then new food sensitivities arose. We tried healing soups, juice fasts, cultured vegetables, and a number of other protocols that serve to strengthen digestion, to overcome leaky gut syndrome, and so forth. And with each new protocol she got better for a time and then got worse as she placed her faith in the new protocol.

I then began to study God's word on health as it is found in holy writ and noticed something that had not made its rightful impact upon me previously. I noted that God's promise of everlasting health is based upon some things we are not to put into our bodies, upon that which he has ordained for our use, and about certain other basics, like going to bed early and arising early. But what jumped out at me more than this minimal counsel to us is that his promises of everlasting health are contingent upon our also obeying all his other commandments. Review these in the Doctrine of Christ.

It isn't enough to simply eat, sleep, and exercise right and according to the Lord's good counsels to us. Every breath we take and heartbeat we enjoy are given to us for the purpose of qualifying to become God's heirs. Our health is a gift made possible by the Lord, and as all gifts it may be lost unto us or it may be quickened and magnified by God's Spirit.

One of the covenant blessings promised by God to us is that if we will exercise faith in his Son unto repentance of our sins and weaknesses, and unto the keeping of his commandments, and if we will witness without hypocrisy or deception before God that we will take upon us the name of His Son through covenant to obey him, to do his will in all things, and to abound in doing good continually, that we will receive a baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and will be raised up unto Eternal Life. This means that among other things we will receive an endowment of perfect health. Now, this is the greatest promise that exists within the health and wellness industry today.

Additionally, while we still live on earth we will be able to walk and not be weary, run and not faith, and the destroying angel will pass us by, and we will receive great treasure of knowledge, even hidden treasures. Now, his promises are adapted to the weakest among us and do not require that we juice fast for extended periods of time, abstain from all meat forever, or eat 100% raw food for the rest of our lives. No where in the Lord's counsels to us has he made these things a requirement unto us. That they might help us is true, but in them alone is not where we are to place our faith or our trust, which would be Idolatry.

Rather, we are to meet the conditions of his unbreakable promise of health unto us. And as we keep our covenant promises and exercise prudence in the way we eat, how we sleep, and the amount of exercise we enjoy, and when we also keep his commandments and obey his voice, to do his will always, then we are promised the quickening baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost.

This is no small thing for the Holy Ghost has all power, all wisdom, all knowledge, all truth, possesses the record of heaven and so forth. And based upon our obedience to our covenants with God, he judges with mercy and wisdom and perfect knowledge the extent to which he can quicken us. Moreover, when we forget where the true power to be made whole comes from and begin to place our faith unduly in "puristic" dietary protocols, we go beyond the mark and in a literal sense we begin to practice idolatry.

Take a moment to go outside and to observe life all around you, the insects and birds and other forms of animal life that are all about us. Dig in the earth and smell, touch, see, and feel the life that is teaming there. Go up on a high mountain; talk with God, and reconnect with and remember the only true source of life, health, and goodness.

My friend decided to ratchet back and instead of seeking greater and greater puristic forms of diet, which seem to have no end to them as we first seek here, and then seek there, and then do this extreme, followed by that extreme--that rather than continue in such a fashion she would study God's minimum requirements and his "maximum" promised blessings. Then she would live her life according to the promised blessings.

After recovnanting to these basics she then considered her sins and weaknesses and determined to give each of these to the Lord that he might make her weak things become strong unto her. She determined to become Surrounded in the Robe of the Lord's Righteousness, which is to receive the Holy Ghost as a constant companion. She renews these covenants often and keeps a prayer in her heart regarding these things always. She is diligent unto keeping the minimal requirements the Lord has given concerning the intake of food, and she is also diligent in keeping all the Lord's commandments and seeking to follow his son and to go about doing good continually.

And her body is being quickened. From time to time she enjoys some wonderful pure juices, and she enjoys more raw foods than she once did, and she also enjoys what too often are labeled as "taboos" in the world of dietary health today -- some animal-based foods -- to compliment her diet by adding flavor, texture, and that bring her joy. She has decided that what the Lord has spoken on this subject is adequate for her and that she does not want to seek beyond the mark and fall into idolatry. Rather, when it comes to her dietary choices today, she will practice prudence according to the Spirit of truth that resides within her.

I recommend placing all one's faith in God's covenant promises, for God canst not lie and when we keep our part of these sacred covenants we receive his unbreakable promise of health. We also qualify ourselves for an endowment of everlasting health, strength, and power to be upon us and upon our children and their children forever and ever, so long as we continue to live according to the laws of truth, light, righteousness, and love.

While we love to share simple, delightful, and nutritious recipes often, from time to time it is more important to remember the Father of our Spirits who canst not lie and to reflect upon the conditions of his promises to us. Jim

So very nicely reflected Brother Jim :-)

...loved it. Thank you...

Wow, thanks for a much needed message.  I realized while reading that I had allowed myself to go overboard on the food thing and lose my focus on the Savior.  Of course, I will continue to eat good whole foods that have been provided for us, but once again remember moderation in all things :)

Ken and Linda, thank you both for your comments. Jim

Thanks Jin!  This is so great and comes at the right time for me.  It is good to know about the available tools and protocols, however, as you so powerfully said salvation comes through Jesus Christ and following him.  Thank you for all you and Colleen do to help us nourish our souls--body and spirit.  God bless!
