NL Questions

I'm just embarking on the adventure of making naturally leavened bread. I've made my first batch of bread and though it wasn't as disastrous as it might have been I still have a long way to go. Practice makes perfect but I have two questions in particular that are my most immediate concerns. First of all since I got my starter it hasn't been growing.
