Restorative Green Drink

After power walking on a steep incline this morning I felt the need for a recovery drink that would enable me to recover swiftly and work hard today, even though I taxed myself early. I've been playing with this little jewel for a few days now and am ready to share it with you. It doesn't have the super sweetness of fruited smoothies, but it is sweet and is absolutely loaded with electrolytes and a full spectrum of vital nutrients.

Ingredients
2 cups water
4 large dates
6 carrots, juiced
2 cucumbers, juiced
8 ribs of celery, juiced
3 large handfuls of spinach leaves

Instructions
Makes about 1/2 gallon, slightly more. Add two cups water and 4 large dates (pitted) to blender and blend until smooth. Juice carrots, cucumbers, and celery and add juice to blender. Then add 3 large handfuls of spinach to blender and blend all contents until smooth. Enjoy this drink over two to three hours! This drink represents a pattern you can follow, adding to as desired to create recovery drinks that will overcome muscle catabolism that is so often associated with sustained physical labor or exercise when glycogen reserves are exhausted. A drink like this will enable adequate blood-sugar levels without putting the body into a state known as gluconeogenesis, wherein muscle is converted to sugar to meet blood-sugar needs. If you do not enjoy sustained physical labor that taps your glycogen reserve levels then such drinks are unneeded and you are better off drinking water and eating the same foods used in this drink whole.

My only complaint is that is tastes too warm....maybe ice would be good...and it makes more than 2 qts which is a lot...

What kind of juicer do you recommend?

First, generally speaking you want to drink your drinks at room temperature, which is far more healthful than chilling your drinks. If you will first blend the dates until smooth and use refrigerated veggies for juicing, the temperature comes out just right. You certainly can add ice if desired. It is the same as adding more water, which is awesome!

For simplicity and affordability I like best the L'Equip XL juicer. If enough people want to get one of these, I believe I could get them for $99 from a friend who is a dealer. He has extended this offer to me in the past.

We were delighted with the service.

Why do the carrots, cucumbers & celery need to be juiced first - isn't the fiber good too?

Madge

Thanks for your question Madge. The purpose of this drink's creation was to help restore my electrolytes, to offer exceptionally high anti-oxidant properties, and a sufficient carb-load to overcome common catabolism of muscles that too often follows intense physical exercise. About a week ago I began trying different smoothie and juiced drink solutions seeking to discover what would help me recover most swiftly after intense morning exercise. Thus far, this drink, which is a hybrid of veggie water, juice, and blended greens takes the cake for restoring my full energy in just a couple of minutes and sustaining it for hours. My fiber is consumed later with breakfast, lunch, and dinner -- as I enjoy a combination of whole fruits, vegetables, and grain during each meal.

I like to experiment and this is a result of experimentation. If you do not do intense labor of any kind, including exercise, you may never need a recovery drink like this ever. In that case you would be better off to drink water and eat your fruits and veggies whole. I wouldn't even drink smoothies.
