Introduction

Water has zero calories and is one of the most important nutrients we can take into our bodies. The body is made up of more than 60 percent water. With a little creativity, there is so much that can be done with pure, filtered water to enhance your diet. For weight management purposes, water is your friendliest ally. Most hunger Americans feel today is really thirst from inadequate hydration. Below I will introduce a few things I like to do with water to help me stay hydrated.

Plain Water: I love to drink it plain throughout the day. The fastest and easiest and most helpful intake we can bring into our bodies is a simple glass of pure water.

Date Water: I like to keep a pitcher of "date water" in my refrigerator at all times. I make this by adding 6 large dates to 2 cups of water and blending it thoroughly; then, I add this date water to a 1/2-gallon pitcher filling the rest of the pitcher up with plain, pure water. Now, if you desire the date water to be sweeter for certain applications, simply use less water. The date water then becomes the base of the many simple and easy recipes:

1. Date Water Green Smoothie

Ingredients
3 cups date water
2 or 3 large handfuls of spinach or other leafy green of choice
1/2 banana
1/2+ Tbsp apple-cider vinegar, to taste

Blend until smooth and enjoy! This is a way to enjoy plenty of leafy greens without spiking blood-sugar levels. Sip quart of drink slowly. The whole drink is only about 150 calories.

2. Date Water Vinaigrette

Ingredients
1 cup date water
1/2+ Tbsp apple-cider vinegar, to taste
1 cup fresh sweet berries of choice, or pear, apple, etc.
2 to 3 Tbsp chia seed, to desired vinaigrette thickness

Blend ingredients until smooth. Allow to sit for 10 minutes; shake well and use as a dressing for a salad. If you prefer your chia seeds whole, then blend the other ingredients first and then add chia seed and allow to sit for about 10 minutes while the chia seed swells and absorbs water. You may also add a bit of raw honey if you wish to enhance the sweetness.

3. Date Water Stir-Fry

Ingredients
1/2 cup date water
2 Tbsp coconut milk
1/2 onion, chopped
2 to 4 ounces mushrooms, diced as desired
Solid Green Veggies (Brussels sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, snow peas, cabbage, etc.)

Add date water, coconut milk, onion, and mushrooms to stir-fry pan and cook until onion and mushrooms are tender. Then add green veggies of choice and cook until tender and stir well into the sauce. You may optionally add some braggs or Nama Shoyu or other fermented soy sauce to enrich the flavor, if desired. If needed, add a bit more plain water while veggies are cooking. The liquid when veggies are just right should reduce to a nice glaze. Do not add too much water and do not allow glaze to burn. Enjoy!

Summary
Keep a pitcher of date water in your refrigerator at all times and become creative in the many uses you can make of this water-based sweetener. Dates are whole and unrefined and ought to become your sweetener of choice wherever possible. Learn to use sweeteners that are not refined. All the hype about good, better, best refined sweeteners is just that -- hype!

You reccommended using 2c. date water in your Thai Pulse with veggie recipe. I thought it suggested to make a stronger concentrated date water of 6 dates and 2c. water. Is this correct or do you dilute it down to the 1/2 gallon first before proceeding with the recipe.

Good question; I will talk to Colleen and see if she can remember exactly what we did. I believe we used 6 dates in 1 quart of water, but it might have been just 2 cups.
