Enjoying a good legume dish daily is an important part of a weight-loss or weight maintenance plan. One of the very best ways to enjoy your legumes is to do so as a dip for raw vegetables. Below we have included seven hummus blends that use garbanzo beans at their base. Feel free to substitute any other favorite bean of choice while making these hummus veggie dips. Also, please include your favorite hummus recipes in the comment box below. Enjoy!

  1. Chunky Salsa Hummus - blend one 15-oz can of drained and rinsed garbanzo beans (chickpeas) with 1 to 2 cup of Chunky Salsa Dressing (see Chunky Salsa video), depending upon desired thickness.
  2. Lemon Tamari Hummus - blend one 15-oz can of garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed) to three to four full recipes of Lemon Tamari Dressing (see video), to taste!
  3. Cucumber Dill Hummus - blend one 15-oz can of garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed) to one recipe of Cumber Cucumber Dill Dressing (see video).
  4. Honey Mustard Hummus - blend one 15-oz can of garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed) to one recipe of Honey Mustard Dressing (see video). Also, you can omit the oil from the honey mustard recipe. There is no need for it when you blend in the garbanzo beans.
  5. Zucchini Hummus - combine the following ingredients into a blender: 1 zucchini (chunked), 2 Tbsp raw tahini, 2 Tbsp lemon juice, 1.2 tsp fresh garlic, 1/4 tsp ground cumin, 1.4 tsp paprika, 1 1/4 tsp sea salt, 1/4 cup water, 1 15-oz can garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed). Blend ingredients to desired consistency.
  6. Ginger Hummus - blend one 15 oz can of garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed) to one recipe of Ginger Dressing (see video)
  7. Apple Orange Hummus - combine the following ingredients into blender and blend until smooth: 1 sweet apple, cored; 1 cup fresh orange juice; 1/4 tsp cinnamon; a pinch of nutmeg; and 1 15 oz can of garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed).

Some of my favorite "grazing" raw veggies I like to dip in hummus include broccoli, cabbage, celery, asparagus, carrot sticks, and cauliflower. I always like to consume one to two plus pounds of raw veggies daily and hummus helps make enjoying raw veggies simple and enjoyable to do. Set out veggie trays for your family with hummus and Peanapple Butter (see recipe) dips. See how much more healthful veggies they eat when they have some simple, fun, and healthful dips to go with them!
